HELL(oween) FASHION!

Happy Halloween lovelies!
What are you dressing as today?

I have to admit that I still get excited just like a little kid when holidays are approaching. I think of what to dress up as for days before the Halloween.

Last year I was a cow-girl, finding an outfit an hour before the party I had my A&F green check button up shirt, jean shorts and braided brown belt with vintage Ralph Lauren cowboy boots and a hat with my hair braided on a side (no gun, stupid little kid got the last one in front of my nose in a toy store).

Those of you who follow my posts regularly might have also noticed that I adore moving images so I have combined these two of my passions to try to inspire you for an amazing Halloween outfits!

Christmas and New Years are next lovelies! I can’t wait! J

Your inner child

“You are so childish! Grow up!” – I hear this said in a caring tone with a smile on the persons face so many times ( a week) – and you know what? I like it to be like that.

Admit it, when no one is in a car with you, you sing out loud. When no one is looking, you get the urge to make bubbles in your drink with a straw or to separate the two parts and lick the middle first when eating an Oreo cookie!
Important thing is to know when to let your inner child shine through. Ok, there are serious situations where we need to take a stand, where we need to think and act as a grown up, but even at work, you need to be able to play around in order to let your inner child inspire your creativity.

SMILE!
As I was mentioning in many other posts, smiling to a person is the best gift you can give and it automatically makes you feel better as well (just don’t do it in a creepy way to strangers). Laugh out loud! When was the last time you really laughed so hard you almost peed your pants or the laughter made you cry? If you cannot remember when, then it was way too long.

“Smiling is infectious,
You can catch it like the flu.
Someone smiled at me today,
And I started smiling too.”

DARE TO TRY NEW THINGS, COLOR OUTSIDE OF THE LINES!
So what if you might look silly while doing it? Do it anyways! Kids take new things and play with them, explore and study them until they find out if they like them or not. When was the last time you learned something new? Is your job challenging enough for you? Are you happy to go to work in the morning?

If the answer is no, you need to change something as you spend most of your lifetime at work, you need to ensure it is indeed the place you want to be, the place which helps you grow as a person.

“When in doubt, make a fool of yourself.  There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth.  So what the hell, leap.”
Cynthia Heimel

SPEAK YOUR MIND!
We all know kids are painfully honest, and I definitely recommend more diplomatic approach, at least at work but overall I am trying to keep that childlike sincerity at least in private relationships, it makes it so much more simple to communicate like that rather than beating around the bush, expecting people to read your mind and assuming how others feel or think about you – just say what you mean and listen more than you speak.

“We must teach our girls that if they speak their mind, they can create the world they want to see.”
Robyn Silverman

BE A GOOD FRIEND!
This takes effort, its’t not given. It doesn’t matter you know someone for years, you need to consciously invest your time and set your priorities in a way that people come first, your friends, family and coworkers…doesn’t matter who but people should always come before things (money included). When was the last time you gained a new friend? Do you let people come close enough to really get to know you?
Today we tend to be so busy that Facebook needs to remind us when our friends are having birthdays, we postpone coffees and hanging out with friends cause we really need to work, we tend to take more then we give. When was the last time you called your friend without actually needing something from them or just to say hi?

“We need old friends to help us grow old and
new friends to help us stay young.”

Njumy fashion!

Yes indeed darlings, if you live fashion then you go all the way! J
On this cold Saturday I have curled up in bed and looking through the fabulous recipe book which I have put together myself through the years, collecting super fancy recipes from fashion magazines (not that I ever made anything more complicated than a chocolate chip cookies and an Spanish omelet) trying to get inspired to bake something fabulous. Instead, I decided to write (less calorie rich but hopefully equally sweet) a blog post.

We have seen various fashion designers create home furnishing, accessories, cars and make up and now here come the designer cupcakes. Shot by Swedish photographer Therese Aldgard and styled by Lisa Edsalv. These two created a fantastic line-up of cupcake sets. They were inspired by Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin and Betsey Johnson.

Couple of years ago I have discovered fabulous Fancy Cakes bakery which we have used for catering in many of my fashion PR projects in Zagreb, they make amazing, beautifully decorated cakes and French macaroons as well as the custom order sweets.

Also, one of my favorites is Amelie café in Zagreb – with to die for sweets and cakes in beautifully decorated space you will never want to leave.
What is your favorite place in your town where you feel absolutely comfy and equipped with fabulous pastries and gorgeous interior design? Care to share?

"Writing is like baking cupcakes, you're trying to make something from the raw. Like with cupcakes it's flour and eggs and stuff, and with books it's ideas and words. The end result is the same though, you want people to eat them up."

"I Heart New York" by Lindsey Kelk {book review}

“I waved down a lit cab. He swerved dramatically towards me and stopped inches from my Louboutins. Shoe-icide, a fate worse than death”
Lindsey Kelk, I Heart New York

This is the last book review I am going to write on my own as the next ones will probably be more fun as they will feature views and opinions of seven very different ladies of La Passion pour la Fashion bookclub, which I am very much looking forward to.

I think such reviews will give you more detailed and more objective perspective then mine alone, so you will be in a better position to decide if you as well might want to read the book we are reviewing.

It is funny that I got this book from my boyfriend because although he lives in Spain, and doesn’t mind traveling and living in different countries as it is the part of his job description he is not at all keen of living in US.
However he knows how much living and working in NYC has impacted and shaped me as a person I am and he knows what I feel for this grand City so he after all (based on pretty pink girly covers and short resume on the back) picked up this book for me, he guessed right, I loved it!

Other than being quite easy to read as most of the chic-lit books the way Lindsey Kelk writes is so so funny that I was definitely laughing out loud in public transportation and at home while reading it (at home this looks much less awkward obviously).

The story revolves around fabulous British girl Angela who gets cheated on by her cowardly husband to be – but obviously it won’t happen after all, not to mention that her best friend knew about it all along so she does something unthinkable – runs away from the whole situation or does she actually takes some space to look at the whole situation from the different perspective, to finally start the life she wants and deserves?
This is for you to decide once you read it J

I will share with you two thoughts I took away from the book which spoke to me and which I found particularly to be truthful as I myself have experienced something similar but in reverse order, NYC to Zagreb.

1.   You don’t go to New York to become a better you, you go there to find a new you, the City does changes you forever.

“People go to LA to "find themselves",
they come to New York to become someone new.”

Lindsey Kelk, I Heart New York

2.   Shopping cannot heal the broken heart. Shopping will get you things to make you look better, looking better will help you feel better about the way you look but until you learn how to really love and care about yourself you will not be able to love another person.

“A break up is the closest thing to bereavement”
Lindsey Kelk, I Heart New York

My story which frightfully so matches the Angela’s, you can read through in my older posts:

Other than being absolutely hilarious read, I would recommend this book to any girl who is going through tough time in life, be it in love or work, it will definitely inspire and encourage you!

Also, at the very end of the book you can find wonderful (and based on my experience living in NYC very true) recommendations of best places to visit, where to eat and in which hotels to stay while visiting.

You can buy this amazing book in few clicks for very little money in La Passion pour la Fashion bookstore.

“If you didn't feel like your support system was strong enough, then getting yourself out of the situation was the best thing to do.”

Smile, sparkle and shine!

„Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.“
John Jakes

Most of you who have seen the  Fall/Winter, 2011. fashion shows and recent magazine editorials have probably noticed all of the shinny sequins, sparkles and glitter pieces styled to be worn from day to night, mixed and matched with velvet, cotton, leather and suede on absolutely everything from make up to dresses, shoes and accessories.

Jessica Stam for Vogue Turkey by Patrick Demarchelier

Not until recently have I started to mix my metals (gold and silver) on rare occasions when I considered it appropriate, until I have seen the latest editorials and various sparkly shoe designs which have inspired me to try to mix in some stand out sparkly pieces in my day wear.

Last year in Milan I found an amazing tailored cotton black (office appropriate) short sleeve knee length tailored dress with sequins embellishment on the emphasized shoulder pads which I have worn a fair number of times; while this year I am thinking about mixing sparkling metals into more casual wear, like the set bellow featuring Balmain mini, cool TOP SHOP boots and simple gray T-shirt by Wang.

As it’s the case with most of you my fabulous shoesoholic followers, I suspect I will spend most of my disposable income on adding some fabulous sparkly shoes to my winter closet as well– my favorites are silver glittery oxford flats (pair of which I already have in silver eco-leather) and these fabulous Miu Miu suede pink meets with silver glitter gorgeousnesses J

Do you dare to shine this winter lovelies? What will be your sparkly investment?

„As we let our light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence actually liberates others.“

Responsible fashion by Vuesociety!

Ladies, I have discovered and decided to share a fellow blogger success story!
Vuesociety is an online boutique recently founded by a former blogger Rachel Kim, who converted her blog into an online boutique, as the first Bellevue fashion voice for the greater Seattle area.

Vuesociety sells curated fashion pieces by Boulee, Again, StyleStalker and other internationally imported designer brands (dresses, jackets, tops, bottoms, and accessories priced at $25 to $300) for women and shortly will expand to men’s fashion as well.  VueSociety specialty is carrying styles that local brick and mortar fashion retailers do not offer.

My favorite part, which is specially hard to do in today’s economy is that although young business which still needs to reach continues profitability model Vuesociety has jumped head in from the start into socially responsible business practice and it has teamed up with Bellevue based non-profit organization, Washington Women In Need (WWIN) by donating a proceed of all sales (5% of each piece sold).

You can check out Vuesociety on their website/Facebook/Twitter/Youtube/Tumblr
